Q AND A

Q: What are the benefits of participating in the Co-Learning program? Why should students join? What is the purpose of Co-Learning?
A:
Since the 2021 academic year, our university has implemented the Mobile Learning Co-Learning Program, allowing students to experience taking courses, living in dormitories, and participating in student clubs across different campuses. In 2022, the Cross-Domain Integration Promoting Office was established to facilitate co-learning affairs between the two campuses and to coordinate with administrative and academic units. The office also assists departments with inter-campus teaching cooperation and transportation support.

The advantages of Co-Learning include:

  1. Experience a Diverse Campus Culture
Different campuses offer unique environments and teaching styles, allowing students to gain not only professional knowledge but also richer life experiences.
  2. Maintain Freshness in Learning
A wider variety of general education courses and clubs, along with exposure to different teaching models, keeps the learning experience fresh.
  3. Shared Resources and Urban Culture
Without paying additional tuition, students can enjoy cross-campus resources (courses, libraries, etc.), no longer limited to a single campus.
  4. Enhance Future Competitiveness
Develop interdisciplinary skills that prepare students to become outstanding leaders.
  5. Build Diverse Interpersonal Relationships
Through living in dorms, taking courses, joining clubs, and sports, students meet peers from different departments, expanding their social networks.

Q: Will participation in the Co-Learning program disrupt student club activities, such as causing interruptions for half a semester?
A:
Regarding student club activities:

  1. The university offers a wide range of clubs with different focuses. For clubs present on both campuses, inter-campus exchange events are held periodically (e.g., Dance Club). Some clubs already have members from both campuses and conduct activities through online meetings.
  2. Students from the Yangming Campus who attend classes at the Guangfu (Chiaotung) Campus may choose to join clubs there while continuing with their original campus clubs. This provides more options without interruption.
  3. This arrangement increases interactions between students of both campuses and reflects the university’s free and open academic atmosphere. Although the two campuses are about 70 kilometers apart, students may use the free “Sunshine Bus” shuttle if they wish to continue club activities on the Yangming Campus while studying at the Guangfu Campus.
  4. If both campus clubs require membership fees, the university may provide partial subsidies.

Q: Which dormitories do Co-Learning students live in? On which campus will they stay?
A:
First-year students participating in Co-Learning will be assigned to the Guangfu Campus freshmen dormitories (female: Zhu-Xuan; male: Dorm 10). If spaces are insufficient, other dormitories will be arranged.

Q: Will Co-Learning participation affect departmental student association activities, making it difficult to organize events?
A:
The Cross-Domain Integration Promoting Office has been established with staff available at both the Guangfu and Yangming campuses. If departmental student associations need assistance with organizing activities (such as venue booking or shuttle buses), they may seek support from the office.

Q: What is the class format for Co-Learning? How are courses arranged?
A:
Since academic departments have different curriculum designs, Co-Learning classes may be conducted either in person or through synchronous online teaching. The university arranges courses to minimize the need for students to commute between the two campuses.

Q: For students studying and living on an unfamiliar campus, will the university provide support? How will interactions with academic advisors be maintained?
A:
The university has implemented a dual-campus advisor system for Co-Learning students. In addition to their original academic advisor and related activities, each student will also be assigned an advisor on the other campus. This ensures students receive guidance in adapting to cross-campus life and nearby support in academics, daily living, and social connections. Students may also seek assistance from the Cross-Domain Integration Promoting Office whenever needed.
